Pilaa Beach is a remote beach on Kauai’s North Shore that has gained fame as the beach fronting Mark Zuckerberg’s property.
Though all beaches in Kauai are public access, Pilaa Beach is especially difficult to reach. Unless you are a guest of Zuckerberg with access to the beach from his property, a visit to Pilaa Beach requires a hike down a slippery slope and then across a rocky coastline of at least 1,200 feet.
Because of the difficulty, few people visit the beach, though a few local surfers surf the area waves.
The best way to see or visit Pilaa Beach (unless you are a guest of Mark Zuckerberg) is from this road off of N. Waiakalua Road that ends at the small clearing in the center of this map.
The road is not visible on the map, but it follows the heavy line of vegetation visible on the map. Lock your vehicle, then hike to the bottom of the hill to the shoreline and follow the shoreline to the beach.
The beach is open to the public, but the area behind the beach is private land owned by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
