Skye Andrade
Skye Andrade is a 6th-generation Kauai-born local girl. She works as a realtor and specializes in helping community heroes buy and sell homes on Kauai through the Homes for Heroes program. She lives on the south side of the island with her wife Jennifer, who is a community hero herself, her son Odin, and many fur babies.
After high school, she moved to the mainland and lived all over the country, from Florida to Washington State and all over southern California. She finally moved back home to Kauai to raise her son and is continually dedicated to helping the community of Kauai thrive through various volunteer and community outreach programs.
Debra Bowyer
Debra moved to Kauai in 2019 to the central location of Lihue, down at the beautiful beach of Kalapaki. She came here from WA state as a nature-loving hiker and long-distance running competitor. The first thing she did was continue my training along the beach, the ocean golf course, and the lagoons up at the Marriott.
The very second thing she did here in October was become a volunteer for the NOAA Hawaiian Monk Seal response team. This allowed her to learn about Hawaiian sea creatures and educate the tourists on our endangered monk seals.
She worked a seasonal holiday job as a UPS driver’s helper with a route in Kapaa and got to know the whole area of Kapaa. Then, she got a job with a car rental agency at the airport, which led her to really get into hiking to help answer tourist questions. She eventually met other hikers and spent years since then hiking everywhere.
She recently changed her hikes from Kokee (Waimea Canyon) to finding the hidden beaches that have no trail and are not even on Google. She is absolutely amazed by these beautiful beaches and sea creatures that feel safe in these remote places. She has also helped the Kauai Animal Shelter with fostering kittens and ended up adopting them. She is now a donating member and takes their dogs out for a day.
LeeAnn Read
LeeAnn Read was married in 2012 and her honeymoon took her to Hawaii for the first time. She fell in love with the beauty and the culture. She continued to visit Kauai over the next 11 years. Each time she visited, she found more to fall in love with. In 2016, she attempted to sell her home and make the move but it wasn’t in the cards at that time, so she continued to come for visits.
She decided she wanted to share her experience with her parents. For their 50th wedding anniversary, she brought them to Hawaii and spent most of her time on Kauai, showing them all the glory it offers.
When she came home, she and her husband decided it was time. One of her dearest friends had recently moved to Kauai, and while visiting, they mentioned they knew of an apartment they could rent.
So they packed up their lives and moved to Kauai. She sometimes feels a little homesick for family and friends, but the life they lead here is low stress, lots of sun, and she never tires of those views!
