Manawaiopuna Falls – Jurassic Falls

Manawaiopuna Falls

Manawaiopuna Falls, also known as Jurassic Falls, is a remote 400-foot tall waterfall on Kauai that was made famous in the 1993 Steven Spielberg movie Jurassic Park. The waterfall dramatically establishes the “Jurassic” setting early in the movie when the main characters arrive by helicopter on the fictional island of Isla Nubar.

The epic waterfall is a popular destination for fans of the movie, however the waterfall can only be accessed by helicopter due to its remote location on private land deep in the Hanapepe Valley. Manawaiopuna Falls can be seen on many helicopter tours of the island, with Island Helicopters as the only company that actually lands at the base of the waterfall. The company’s Jurassic Falls Helicopter Landing Adventure includes approximately 25 minutes on the ground at the falls.

Hiking to Manawaiopuna Falls is highly problematic due to it being located on private property and also because of the remote location. There are no known trails to the waterfall and there is little to no information on any attempts to hike to the falls.
