Zuckerberg and Wife Hike Kauai’s Awaawapuhi Trail for Anniversary

Mark Zuckerberg and wife Priscilla Chan hiked Kauai’s Awaawapuhi Trail to celebrate the couple’s 9th wedding anniversary on May 19th, 2021. Zuckerberg shared a pic to his Facebook and Instagram accounts of the couple posing at the end of the Awaawapuhi Trail. In the background is the trail’s famous view of Kauai’s Na Pali Coast. Zuckerberg posted:

“I can’t believe that next year we’ll have been together for half our lives. I also can’t believe that on our anniversary hike, even our camera got sunscreen on it.”

Zuckerberg made headlines in the summer of 2020 when photos of him emerged with his face caked with sunscreen while eFoil surfing on Kauai with surfer Kai Lenny.

Zuckerberg, who added to his Kauai land holdings in March with the purchase of an additional 300 acres above Larsen’s Beach, is an avid hiker on the island. He is a member of Facebook’s Kalalau Trail page and has hiked the eleven miles of the trail. The Kalalau Trail is known for its epic beauty and also for the dangers posed by Crawler’s Ledge, a narrow portion of the trail along a cliff.

Like the Kalalau Trail, the Awaawapuhi Trail is also a bucket list item for many hikers. The three-mile (six-mile round trip) trail takes hikers down a mostly-forested path to a jaw-dropping view of the island’s Na Pali Coast. Though not as dangerous or strenuous as the Kalalau Trail, the Awaawapuhi Trail is not easy. The muddy trail starts at 4,120 feet and gradually descends 1,620 feet to 2,500 feet at the trail end. But walking down is not the hard part. The hard part is coming back up the trail in the mud, rocks and roots.
