18 years after his first attempt, Roy Kranz and son successfully hike to the Blue Hole (Weeping Wall) on Kauai. On the return, they almost got stranded on the wrong side of the river when it swelled up to the point of being unsafe to cross. After waiting for a few hours, they were finally able to cross and make the long trek back.
The Blue Hole hike is one of the most difficult hikes on Kauai. The journey takes hikers deep into the rain-soaked interior of Kauai, following the Wailua River upstream to its origin at the Weeping Wall. The trek is very difficult, slippery, wet and rocky and is only recommended for the most fit and capable hikers.
