By day, the sleepy town of Hanapepe feels like a deserted Western ghost town, complete with a shuttered old-style movie theater. But on Friday nights the town comes alive with cafes, food trucks, bookstores, art studios and live music. We usually plan our trips to western Kauai (Polihale, Waimea Canyon, Kokee State Park, etc.) on Fridays so that we can stop by and enjoy the charms of Kauai’s best art night. Though many in attendance are tourists, there are few if any cheap Kauai t-shirts and souvenirs. Instead, one will find a trove of unique Hawaiian crafts, memorabilia, fine arts and a nice helping of island cuisine.
Hanapepe Art Night is held every Friday night from 5-8PM in the town of Hanapepe (map).
