Kalapaki Beach is a relaxing beach in Lihue, Kauai that is home to the huge Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort (former Kauai Marriott Resort). Minutes from the airport, and with the only high-rise hotel on the island, Kalapaki Beach is an absolute favorite for many visitors to Kauai. It’s a nice place to stop by and spend a few hours if you’re waiting for a flight.
Located in Nawiliwili Bay, the beach is sheltered from the open ocean. Swaying palm trees, gentle waves, calm breezes and green grass make for the perfect place to sun, swim, read a book and relax.
There’s volleyball at the beach, along with boogie boarding, stand-up paddle boarding and other water sports. In recent years, hydrofoil surfing has become a thing in the bay. The Kauai Beach Boys offer surfing lessons here.
You can rent any gear for water activities across the street at the beach store.
Adding to the experience at Kalapaki Beach are several nice dining choices, including the favorite Duke’s Kauai, a popular beachfront restaurant with live local music. Across the street is the Harbor Mall for more dining options and shopping opportunities.
Sunsets are serene and surreal at Kalapaki.
